We are seeking an experienced Trademark Manager with a strong understanding of trademark law and excellent attention to detail to join our global Legal & Compliance team. As a member of our newly created Global Legal Services Team, you will work on a wide variety of business-critical trademark and design topics in collaboration with an in-house legal team, global marketing colleagues and regional legal teams around the world. In doing so you will:
Your Tasks
- Manage a global trademark and design portfolio from filing of applications to grant of registrations including preparation of responses to notifications from IP Offices and support in developing and executing IP filing strategies
- Perform global trademark clearance and registrability checks on proposed IP assets (e.g., product names, descriptive names, logos, slogans) and provision of risk assessment/recommendations to responsible stakeholders
- Assist with objections and oppositions to third party trademarks, including monitoring publication deadlines, providing reports, gathering, collating and preserving evidence of use and reputation of Beiersdorf’s trademarks, drafting and sending formal legal correspondence, official forms, reports and documents
- Provide administrative support in IP litigation matters, including document management, deadline tracking, coordination with external counsel and communication of progress, risks, and next steps to internal teams
- Instruct and communicate with foreign IP colleagues in other jurisdictions regarding the above topics, including liaising regularly with DE, EU and overseas trademark attorneys regarding local procedures and requirements and managing progress updates
- Provide administrative management of ongoing IP renewals & maintenance actions ( e.g., preparing submissions with formalities with Notary, Declaration of Use affidavits)
- Closely liaise with inhouse-legal and business teams to ensure seamless collaboration in all trademark matters
- Assist in the management of IP budgets, coding/processing of IP invoices in accordance with corporate billing guidelines, providing cost estimates and support for preparation of quarterly forecasts
- Have active engagement in our Legal Services Colleagues’ working group including support of ongoing Global Legal & Compliance department initiatives and new projects to support workflow and process efficiencies
- Ad hoc administration: you will assist Global Legal Directors with compiling any ad hoc statistics, reports, analyses (using Excel, Word, Power BI) and the preparation of PowerPoint presentations.
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies, Intellectual Property, Legal Studies, or a related discipline
- Professional legal experience either in-house or in private practice, with an understanding of trademark formalities
- Experienced with preparing and filing international trademark registrations at DPMA, EUIPO and WIPO
- Proficiency in conducting trademark availability assessments and using standard tools for trademark watch/monitoring
- Demonstrated attention to detail and strong organizational capabilities, supported by proven reliability and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Fluent in English and German with ability to communicate complex trademark matters both written and verbal, in clear, concise, and professional language; other languages a plus
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment and exercise efficient time management
- Digitally fluent, AI-aware & comfortable with contemporary IP software and technologies
- Self-motivated with an ability to operate well autonomously and collaboratively within a team
- Ability to liaise effectively and appropriately with all levels within the group, both locally and internationally, as well as with external contacts
- Familiarity with SAP (invoice approval, creation of orders/creditors) a desirable asset
- Experience working in FMCG or in an international corporate environment viewed favorably
- Open mindset, curious, constructive, adaptable and future-oriented
