Our subsidiary HHLA International GmbH (HIG) manages and is responsible for the Group's international activities, including the Container Terminal Odessa (Ukraine), HHLA TK Estonia (Estonia) or the port terminal PLT in Trieste, Italy.
The Director (m/f/d) Operating IT systems, infrastructure and processes will have the overall responsibility over the strategic development and implementation of the IT systems across international terminal locations. You will drive the adoption of innovative technologies, ensure seamless system integration, and optimize IT operations in close collaboration with local teams and international partners.
What you can expect

  • You lead the strategic development and standardization of IT operating systems and infrastructure across all terminals, ensuring efficiency, security, and alignment with global standards.
  • You are responsible for the successful implementation and seamless integration of new technologies into existing systems, ensuring user adoption and operational success.
  • You monitor IT system performance, analyze KPIs and SLAs across all teams, and drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and operational reliability.
  • You develop and enforce group-wide IT standards, policies, and processes in collaboration with Business Units, including training and change management.
  • You assess risks and make go-live decisions for system implementations, ensuring minimal operational disruption and adherence to best practices.
  • You manage IT budgets in your area, align financial planning with service needs, and optimize resource utilization throughout the year.
  • You maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, foster-ing continuous service improvement and long-term collaboration.
  • You support local teams in building IT capabilities, from recruitment to training and development.
  • You coordinate and oversee IT projects in an international environment, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory requirements.

What you bring to the table

  • You have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field and bring over 8+ years of total IT management experience.
  • You possess hands-on knowledge within the port industry and terminal organizations, including experience with port IT systems, yard, vessel, resource planning and business processes.
  • You have a strong track record in software development in a project management team, software quality, release, and change management.
  • You are confident in working within multicultural environments and can communicate effectively across all levels - from operational staff to executive leadership.
  • You have strong analytical and documentation skills, including experience in writing system requirements, process mapping, and developing structured business models.
  • You stay up to date with emerging technologies in the port industry and are open to driving and managing change initiatives.
  • You are well-versed in EDI standards, network infrastructure, and IT protocols, with practical experience in managing switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • You communicate fluently in English (spoken and written); knowledge of German, Italian, or Russian is a plus
